Maverick
Mentor
Remember just graduating college and moving to a new city?
Having a contact to give you the "lay-of-the-land"
about a new city or discuss the basics of getting started
in a profession can be of great assistance. One of the advantages
attending college is developing such contacts. Mesa State
College alumni live throughout the country and work in many
fields of interest.
The Alumni Association and the Advising & Career Center are
looking for alumni who can provide a point of contact to help
students, new graduates and fellow alumni get oriented in
a new town, profession or area of interest-become Maverick
Mentors. The Alumni Network will put students and alumni looking
for contacts in touch with these Maverick Mentors who are
willing to share their knowledge and experience.
This advise may be as simple as answers to questions such
as "Where's a good place to get Italian food in Seattle?"
to more specific questions like, "I'll be teaching in
same school district as you, can you give me any do's or don'ts?"
It will be totally up to the Maverick Mentor on how involved
they want to get responding.
The Alumni Network will:
Serve as a buffer to maintain the privacy of Maverick Mentors
and those contacting them.
Inform students and alumni that these contacts are not job
interviews or potential employers, but concerned alumni
wanting to give general advise.
The Maverick Mentor will:
Agree to have their name and area(s) of interest and/or
location in which they wish to share their experience and
knowledge published to students and interested alumni.
Share their knowledge and experience with students and fellow
alumni.
