Sweep Colorado Christian
Record Breaking 41 Runs in Victory
(Game One: 8-3 Game Two: 9-6 Game Three: 41-7 Game Four: 11-5)

State baseball extended their win streak to five in a four game
series sweep at Colorado Christian. The Mavericks scored a record
41 runs in game three of the series, scoring 18 runs in the ninth
inning in a 41-7 victory.
MSC
opened the series taking Friday's doubleheader by the scores of
8-3 and 9-6. Brent Lamaster relieved starter Chris Carma
in the fourth inning and shutout the Cougars for 5.1 innings, earning
his third victory of the season. Kevin Chritz pitched 0.2
of the ninth inning. Lamaster allowed two hits, four walks
and struck out six batters.
MSC
trailed 3-0 after four innings and put their first run on the board
in the sixth on a solo homerun by Matt Miller. The Mavericks
scored five runs in the seventh on a two run homerun by Kyle
Hogue and three run shot by Chris Cassell.
In
game two MSC scored nine runs on 12 hits in a 9-6 victory. Jason
Enewold, Aaron Guinn and Kevin Chritz combined
for the win. Enewold picked up his third victory and Chritz
was credited with the save. MSC broke a 1-1 tie scoring five
runs on four hits (2 errors) in the third. Curtis Englehart
had a game high three hits. Matt Miller and Blake Carlquist
had two hits each.
Sunday's
sweep started with a record breaking performance as the Mavs scored
41 runs on 36 hits and recorded 39 RBI, all single game records.
MSC posted a season high 10 walks and 64 at bats. Chandler Herdt
set a single game record with seven hits (7 for 8). Herdt
and Grant Vickers had six RBI each, while Herdt and
Justin Little each scored five runs. MSC led 23-7 going in
to the ninth and added 18 runs on 13 hits. CCU's pitcher faced 22
batters in the inning.
Starter
T.J. Butch (6-0) remained undefeated with the win going 5.0
innings and allowing five runs (2 earned) on seven hits, two walks
and two strikeouts. Freddie Hampe pitched the final four
innings giving up two runs on two hits.
Game
four of the series, an 11-5 victory, closed out the season's sweep
of the Cougars. MSC defeated CCU in a four game series in early
March at Suplizio Field.
Justin
Little and Chandler Herdt had two hits each and combined
for five RBI and four runs. Starter Jason Fronczak (2-0)
pitched 5.0 innings for the victory. Jack Amidei and Andy
Williams pitched one inning each.
MSC
will close out the regular season at home this weekend. The Mavericks
will host league leading Metro State College, Friday night at 7
p.m. Friday's game is Little League Night/Record Attendance Night
at Suplizio Field.
