Dixie
Wins 3-of-4 against #2 Ranked Mavericks
(Game One: 8-7, Game Two: 1-6, Game Three: 4-9, Game Four: 2-10)
Mesa
State baseball team dropped 3-of-4 games in St. George, Utah at
the hands of Dixie State this weekend. The Mavericks won game one
of the series Friday night and then saw its four game win streak
snapped as the Rebels took the next three games and the series.
MSC
opened the four game series Friday night with an 8-7 victory behind
the outstanding hitting of Chandler Herdt's 4-for-4 from
the plate, including five RBI. MSC scored at least one run in the
first three innings and held a 5-1 lead until the Rebels put up
five runs in the bottom of the third and a 6-5 lead. MSC tied the
game in the sixth and scored one run each in the sixth and seventh
to hold off host Dixie State.
Junior
Chris Carma picked up his first win as a Maverick coming
on in relief of starter Jack Amidei. Carma went 6
1/3 innings allowing just one run on six hits and striking out six.
Dixie
State swept Saturday's doubleheader scoring five runs in the first
inning of game one on the way to a 6-1 victory. The Rebels scored
five runs on three hits in the first inning and held the Mavericks
to two hits in the seven inning game. Starter Brent Lamaster
allowed six runs on five hits in four innings.
Game
two of the doubleheader the Rebels again scored multiple runs in
the first inning setting the tone in a 9-4 win. Dixie erased the
Mavs 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first scoring four runs on four
hits. The Rebels added one run in the second and two runs each in
the fourth and sixth inning. MSC's Justin Little went 3-for-5.
Starter
Eric Lamb was credited with the loss giving up five runs
on seven hits in 1 2/3 innings. Aaron Guinn and Jason
Enewold combined for four innings on the mound allowing four
runs on three hits.
In
the series finale on Sunday the Rebels scored 10 runs on 14 hits
for a 10-2 victory and the series win. Dixie raced out to a 7-0
lead after three innings and scored three more runs in the sixth.
MSC scored one run in the fourth and sixth inning, including a solo
home run by Mike Provencher.
Starter
Freddie Hampe was credited with the loss after allowing seven
runs on seven hits in three innings of work.
MSC
will host Cal-State Chico in its home opener this weekend at Suplizio
Field. Game one is scheduled for Friday at 3 pm.
