Mavs Sweep Highlands in Opening Weekend of Conference Play
(Game One: 14-9, Game Two: 8-3, Game Three: 5-2, Game Four: 12-5)

Mesa State improved to 13-6 overall and 4-0 in conference play with a sweep at New Mexico Highlands this weekend. The win is the Mavs ninth consecutive victory.

Jack Amidei pushed his record to 4-0 in the Mavs opening game Friday night. MSC scored 14 runs on 14 hits racing out to a 10-0 lead before the Cowboys scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. MSC scored four more runs in the seventh while giving up four runs in the eighth and ninth to NMHU. Amidei went seven innings allowing seven runs on 12 hits and striking out five.

Chandler Herdt and Andrew Martinez had three hits each and combined for four extra base hits, four runs batted in and three runs scored.

The hitting continued in Saturday's doubleheader with the Mavericks winning game one 8-3 on 15 hits. MSC scored five runs in the fourth with the help of Kyle Hogue's fifth homerun of the season. Justin Little and Matt Miller each went 3-for-4 from the plate and Martinez, Mike Provencher and Curtis Englehart had two hits each.

Aaron Guinn was credited with the win, his first of the season. Jason Enewold pitched 2.2 inning and was credited with the save.

In game two of the doubleheader MSC trailed 2-1 going in to the seventh inning and came from behind to defeat the Cowboys 5-2, scoring four runs on five hits. Martinez, Englehart and Hogue had two hits each. Each played a major role in the come from behind victory. Englehart doubled, Hogue was intentionally walked and Martinez singled up the middle to score Hogue.

T.J. Butch relieved starter Eric Lamb going 3.1 inning to pick up the win. Brent Lamaster earned the save, shutting down the Cowboys in the seventh inning.

Sunday's final game had the Mavericks scoring 12 (12-5) runs on 21 hits and pushing their win streak to nine. Justin Little went 4-for-6 with four RBI. Provencher, Herdt and Miller had three hits each and a combined six runs scored and five RBI.

Mav starter Andy Williams improved to 3-0 allowing two runs on six hits. Kevin Chritz, T.J. Stastny, Jason Fronczak and Freddie Hampe all saw action on the mound.

MSC will host Colorado Christian at Suplizio Field beginning Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday starting and 4 p.m. The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at Noon.
