Drop Series at Metro State
(Game One: 7-10, Game Two: 11-12, Game Three: 1-2, Game Four: 5-6)
Mesa
State dropped a four game series at Metro State falling to 17-10
overall and 8-4 in conference play. The series sweep improved the
Roadrunners record to 20-4 overall and 12-0 in RMAC action.
Metro State opened the series Friday night scoring 10 runs on 12
hits, including a five-run fourth inning that put Metro ahead 6-3.
The Roadrunners scored two runs in the sixth and eighth while MSC
scored two runs each in the eighth and ninth.
MSC
starter Jack Amidei (5-1) suffered his first loss of the
year allowing seven runs (five earned) on eight hits, walked six
and struck out three. Reliever Josh Ogden went 2. 1 innings
giving up three runs on four hits and Eric Lamb closed out
the game (0.2 inning) with one strikeout.
Saturday's
doubleheader resulted in one run victories for the Roadrunners (12-11,
2-1). In game one Metro scored five runs each in the fourth and
fifth innings and off set the Mavs three runs in each of those innings.
MSC scored three in the top of the seventh but fell short closing
out the inning with two men left on base.
Game
two on Saturday the Roadrunners broke a 1-1 tie in their last at
bat on an RBI single with two out. Starter Chris Carma fell
to 3-2 on the year allowing two runs on eight hits, five walks and
four strikeouts.
In
the series finale on Sunday the Roadrunners erased a 5-0 deficit
in the seventh inning scoring six runs on five hits. MSC's Chris
Cassell (4-for-5) was responsible for four of the Mavs 11 hits.
Curtis Englehart and Kyle Hogue had two hits each.
MSC
will travel to CSU-Pueblo for a four game series beginning Thursday
evening. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday and wrap up
the series with a single game on Saturday.
