Mesa State baseball improved to 32-15 overall and 23-9 in RMAC action with a series split at Suplizio versus New Mexico Highlands. It marks the second time this season MSC has split an RMAC home series at Suplizio Field (Neb.-Kearney).

In the series opener Friday night starter Chris Carma improved to 6-3 on the year as the Mavericks defeated New Mexico Highlands 11-5. MSC posted two big innings, scoring four runs in the third and five in the fourth on their way to their 31st victory (31-13) of the season.

Chris Cassell went 4 for 5 with four RBI, including a three run double in the fourth inning. Mike Provencher, Curtis Englehart, Kyle Hogue and Andrew Martinez had two hits each as the Mavs out hit the Cowboys 15-9.

MSC dropped both games in Saturday's doubleheader, falling 7-6 in game one and 6-5 in game two. In game one the Cowboys scored the winning run in the seventh inning on an RBI double with two outs. Each team scored four runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth for a 6-6 tie heading in to the seventh. T.J. Stastny took the loss for the Mavericks.

Game two of the doubleheader the Cowboys again scored the go ahead run in the final inning. NMHU held a 4-3 lead after five and scored two runs in their top half of the seventh for a 6-3 lead. MSC's attempted rally fell short after pulling to within 5-6; Cowboys reliever Tim Martinez recorded back-to-back strikeouts.

MSC earned the series split with a 9-4 victory Sunday afternoon. Starter Jason Fronczak picked up his first win (two starts) of the year going 6.1 innings allowing four runs on 11 hits and striking out six. Freddie Hampe pitched the final 2.2 innings, giving up just one hit and striking out two Cowboy batters.

MSC tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth and scored three runs in the fifth for a 5-2 lead they would not relinquish. MSC tacked on a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

Mike Provencher and Curtis Englehart had three hits each and Chandler Herdt knocked in three runs and scored twice.

MSC will travel to Colorado Christian for a four game series beginning on Friday. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday. Games are slated to start at Noon each day.
