Mavs Split at Home, Beat CSU-Pueblo 82-62, Fall to Adams 84-74

Mesa State men returned home Friday night and a start to a four game home stand that will wrap up regular season play by beating CSU-Pueblo 82-62.

Jake Swartzendruber led the way with a season high 17 points, including 8-of-9 from the floor. Ryan Mathews finished with 16 points and Justin Ashbaugh added 13 points and four assists. Kurt Bangle, Sean Flohr and Bassey Ekong combined for 25 points and 17 boards.

MSC raced out to a 17-3 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game and extend their lead to 22 late in the second half. MSC shot 56.5 percent (26-46) from the floor and hit 22-of-29 free throw in the contest.

Saturday night against Adam State College the Mavs held a 45-41 half-time lead fighting their way back from an 11-point deficit with under 10 minutes remaining in the first half. The second half the Grizzlies shot 66.7 percent from the floor and 66.9 percent for the game, beating the Mavs for the second time this season, 84-74.

Ashbaugh led all players with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Kurt Bangle recorded 18 points and eight rebounds and Ryan Mathews added 10 points.

Adams State had five players in double figures led by Rece Hampton's 18 points off the bench.

MSC will host first place Fort Lewis Tuesday night and close out regular season action Thursday night against Western State.
