Mavs Beat UC-Colorado Springs, Regis at Home
(Improve to 8-6 Overall, 5-2 in RMAC)

Mesa State men extended their win streak to three and remain undefeated in 2008 following home victories this weekend over UC-Colorado Springs (92-66) and Regis University (68-57).

Ryan Mathews led the way scoring a team high 17 and 16 points respectively while shooting 11-of-20 from the floor and 9-of-12 from the foul line.

MSC shot 54.7 percent (35-64) from the field versus UCCS Friday night and forced 20 Mountain Lion turnovers in the game. MSC out scored UCCS 55-35 in the second half after holding a 37-31 half-time lead.

Kurt Bangle finished with 14 points and a game high nine boards. Andre Carter and Jake Swartzendruber had 12 points a piece.

Saturday night against east leading Regis University (9-6, 4-3) the Mavs once again had a strong second half, out scoring the Rangers 41-29 after trailing by one point at half (27-28).

MSC had four players in double figures with Mathews' 16 points leading the way. Justin Ashbaugh (last weeks RMAC Player of the Week) and Kurt Bangle finished with 14 points each and Bassey Ekong added 12 points and pulled down a game high seven rebounds. Ekong was 3-for-3 from the arc and 3-of-4 from the foul line for his 12 points. He also tallied two assists, one blocked shot and one steal in 28 minutes of action.

MSC will travel to west division leader Fort Lewis College (11-3, 6-1) for a match-up with the Skyhawks Tuesday night in Durango.
