Mavs Defeat Colorado Christian, CSU-Pueblo, Fall 5-4 to Western New Mexico

Mesa State men's tennis team improved to 11-9 overall and 2-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action following a three match home stand this weekend.

MSC shutout Colorado Christian Thursday afternoon winning all the singles matches in straight sets while allowing the Cougars 22 games overall in the six singles matches.

Friday afternoon the Mavs fell to Western New Mexico 5-4 winning three of the six singles matches and one doubles match. Sophomore Jordan Chomko defeated WNMU's number two singles player in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Number three player Nick Provenza defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-4 and number six singles player Niko Carrizo won by the score of 6-3, 6-0. Joey Coleman and Kevin Nydam won their doubles match by the score of 8-6.

MSC bounced back Saturday morning winning a 5-4 decision over CSU-Pueblo. MSC won four of the six singles matches and picked up a doubles victory at number three for the victory. MSC's number one player Joey Coleman defeated Beau Fresquez in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5. Number four singles player Jeremiah Driscoll defeated Kyle Eads 6-3, 6-1. David Smith beat the T-Wolves number five player, James McIndoe, 6-4, 6-3, and number six singles player, Niko Carrizo defeated CSU-P's Rich Cappis, 6-0, 6-2. The doubles team of Carrizo and Driscoll won 8-4 over CSU-P's McIndoe and Cappis.

MSC will travel to Denver next weekend for RMAC action against Colorado Christian, Neb.-Kearney and Metro State. MSC will play a non-conference match at Colorado College on Friday.
