Cole Johnson Eliminated at DII National Tournament

Mesa State sophomore Cole Johnson became the first Maverick wrestler to qualify for the NCAA Division II National Tournament. Today in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, host site of the tournament, Johnson went 0-2 and was eliminated following day one action.

In the 165-pound bracket Johnson fell in the first round to Kyle Becker from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in a 6-3 decision.

In the afternoon session Johnson lost in the first round of the wrestleback to Aaron Denson of Neb.-Omaha, in a 11-4 decision. Denson went on to win his second round wrestleback in a major decision (10-0) over Chadron State's Brett Hunter.

The NCAA Division II National Championships will conclude on Saturday, March 15.
