Win Series, Drop Final Game to Rangers

State baseball won its third consecutive series taking three of
four games versus Regis University at Suplizio Field.
Friday
night the Mavericks scored two runs in the sixth and two runs in
the seventh, including the go ahead run, on a two out, two run RBI
single by Curtis Englehart. It was Englehart's first
hit of the game. MSC's two runs in the sixth came on a Chris
Cassell lead off homerun and a RBI double by Mike Provencher.
Reliever Kevin Chritz (2-0) earned his second victory of
the season, shutting out the Rangers in 2.1 innings. Chritz
allowed one hit and struck out three.
Mesa
State swept Saturday's doubleheader winning game one 7-5 and coming
from behind in game two for a 3-2 victory. MSC hit four homeruns
in the game and tallied 11 hits. Mike Provencher, Matt
Miller and Chris Cassell had two hits each, with Provencher
and Miller hitting homeruns. Blake Carlquist hit
his second homerun of the year and Kyle Hogue hit his 15th
homerun, driving in two runs. Starter T.J Butch improved
to 5-0, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits, three walks
and three strikeouts. T.J. Stastny earned his first save
of the year.
Mesa
State came from behind in game three of the series scoring two runs
in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 victory. Steve Moralez
led off the seventh with a triple to left center an pinch runner
Jon Evans scored on a error by the Ranger pitcher on a sacrifice
bunt by Andrew Martinez to tie the game. Englehart
singled through the left side driving in the winning run. Starter
Jason Enewold pitched the complete game allowing two runs
on six hits, three walks and six strikeouts.
Sunday afternoon going for the sweep the Rangers erased an 11-3
deficit scoring 12 runs in the final three innings for a 15-13 come-from-behind
victory. After allowing the Rangers three runs in the first inning,
MSC shut out Regis the next five innings, taking an 11-3 lead. Regis
scored three runs in the seventh, five in the eighth and four runs
in the ninth to avoid a sweep. Regis tallied 18 hits in the game
including 12 in the final three innings.
Mike Provencher finished with a game high four hits (4-6).
Curtis Englehart and Chris Cassell had three hits
each and a combined five RBI and three runs.
MSC will host New Mexico Highlands in a four game series beginning
Friday night at 7 p.m.
