Mavs Beat Colorado Mines, 48-18, Runs Record to 6-0 in RMAC
(Eighth Consecutive Win For 8-1, 6-0 Record)

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Mesa State Mavericks clinched at least a share of the RMAC title with a 48-18 victory over Colorado Mines Saturday afternoon at Stocker Stadium. The win pushed their record to 8-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 conference mark. The Mavs are on an eight game win streak, with two conference road games remaining.

MSC racked up 588 total net yards to the Orediggers, 303. MSC held Mines to 84 yards rushing, allowing just 27 rushing yards in the second half. MSC's defense had two fumble recoveries and two interceptions on the day.

Junior Charles Dukes (RB, 5-10, 200, Jr., Aurora, CO) had three rushing touchdowns on his way to a total net rushing day of 197 yards on 22 carries. MSC had 11 players rush at least once, carrying the ball 70 times for 394 yards and five touchdowns. Redshirt freshman, Andrew Rauenzahn (FB, 6-0, 225, Colorado Springs, CO) had a career high two touchdown runs, (12 yards, 1 yard), rushing six times for 28 yards.

Junior quarterback Jeff Mowry (6-0, 190, Jr., Riverton, WY) was 9-for-13 for 194 yards and one touchdown pass. Jason Arthur (TE, 6-3, 225, Sr., Moab, UT) caught a first quarter 14-yard pass from Mowry for a 7-3 Maverick lead. Junior wide receiver, Jesse Preston (5-9, 175, Golden, CO) had a career day against his hometown college, catching a game high four passes for 127 yards.

Linebackers, BJ Russell (6-1, 210, Jr., Fruita, CO) and DeMeco Moore (6-2, 250, Sr., Colorado Springs, CO) recorded eight and seven tackles respectively.Russell forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and had a team high four solo tackles. Defensive backs, Aniya Slocum (6-0, 195, Jr., Las Vegas, NV) and Joe Krile (6-1, 185, So., Loveland, CO) recorded interceptions, defensive tackle, Hank Bevan (6-0, 250, Sr., Mesa, CO) forced and recovered an Oredigger fumble.

Colorado Mines led 3-0 in the first quarter before the Mavs scored 17 unanswered points. MSC took a 20-10 lead on a 48-yard field goal by Casey Coulter (5-10, 180, Jr., Canon City, CO) with no time on the clock to end the first half.

MSC outscored Mines 28-8 in the second half. Rauenzahn scored on two touchdown runs in the third quarter for a 34-10 lead. At the 4:49 mark in the third, Dukes scored from 2-yards out for a 41-18 lead. Mines' first possession of the fourth quarter was stopped on a Krile interception at the Mines 50-yard line. MSC scored on the turnover on Dukes' third touchdown run of the day, a three yard scamper in to the endzone.

Kicker Casey Coulter was 6-for-6 on PAT's, a perfect 2-for-2 on field goals (46, 48) and punted twice for 70 yards.

MSC will travel to Neb.-Kearney next Saturday for a showdown with the Lopers (5-4, 4-3). The game is scheduled for a Noon (MST) kickoff.
