#18 Mavericks Fall at #3 Chadron State, 7-6

Mesa State (8-1, 5-1) allowed one touchdown on Chadron State's opening drive of the game and the Eagles made it stand for a 7-6 victory over the Mavericks Saturday afternoon in Chadron Neb. Both teams entered the game 8-0 overall and 5-0 in RMAC action.

Chadron State went 75 yards in nine plays scoring the only touchdown of the game on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Joe McLain to Landon Ehlers.

Mesa State's Jared Keating was good on his two field goal attempts of the day. Keating hit a 47-yard field goal early in the second quarter and the Mavs entered the half trailing 7-3. Keating made good on his second field goal of the day, a 37-yarder in the third quarter.

MSC's defense held the Eagles to just 66 rushing yards on 27 carries and 203 total yards on the day.

The Mavericks balanced attack included 170 passing yards and 121 rushing yards. MSC had 71 offensive plays to the Eagles 50. MSC dominated the Eagles in just about every statistical category including first downs (MSC-17, CSC-11), time of possession (MSC-34:14, CSC-25:46) and total yards (MSC -291, CSC-203).

The Eagles defense sacked quarterback Phil Vigil five times for a loss of 32 yards. The Mavericks were flagged for eight penalties for 80 yards while CSC had six penalties for 61 yards.

Bobby Coy led all rushers with 29 carries for 87 yards. CSC was without their all-time leading rusher Danny Woodhead (NCAA all-time rusher) who sat out his second consecutive game with an injured foot. Vigil was 18-for-33 for 170 yards. Tight End Austin Able had a game and season high five receptions for 44 yards.

Mesa State will return home for their final regular season game against Colorado School of Mines, Saturday at Noon. The Orediggers enter the game 6-3 overall and 5-1 in league play.
