Ranked Mavericks 7-0, Beat Western State 30-27
(Coy Rushes for 247 yards, Bohannan sets MSC Reception Record)

State Mavericks kept their perfect record intact (7-0 overall, 4-0
RMAC) defeating Western State College (0-7, 0-5) in Gunnison Saturday
afternoon, scoring the go ahead touchdown with 4:49 remaining in
regulation.
The
Mavericks built a 16-3 lead at half on a Drew Bohannan 63-yard
touchdown reception from Phil Vigil in the first quarter.
Bobby Coy scored on a 1-yard run late in the first for a
13-3 lead. Jared Keating pushed the lead to 16-3 as time
expired on a 53-yard field goal, the longest of his career.
On
MSC's first possession in the second half Coy scored his
second touchdown of the day on a 5-yard run and a Maverick 23-3
lead.
Western
State then scored 24 unanswered points, their first coming with
6:46 remaining in the third quarter. With 7:20 left in the game
the Mountaineers took the lead (27-23) on a 31-yard interception
return by Adrian Trujillo.
Coy
made the most of his 247 rushing yard day (30 carries) when it counted
most. After the go ahead touchdown by WSC the Mavericks took the
ensuing kickoff and drove 67 yards for the winning touchdown. Coy
accounted for 65 of the 67 total yards in final drive and rushed
the ball on 5 of the 7 plays, including a 30 yard gain down to the
Mountaineers 15-yard line. Coy set up the Phil Vigil
1-yard touchdown run with 4:49 left in the game.
The
Mavericks defense held the Mountaineers on their last drive forcing
WSC to punt the ball which resulted in an 11-yard Western punt.
MSC took over the ball and ran out the clock for the victory.
Coy
led all rushers with 247 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bohannan
had a team high 4 receptions for 96 yards and one touchdown. Vigil
was 11-for-20 for 148 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception.
Defensively
MSC held Western to 71-rushing yards on 42 attempts. The Mountaineers
out gained MSC in the air throwing for 290 yards (MSC-148 yards).
WSC was 2-for-2 on fourth down-conversions.
MSC's
Ryan Kadavy lead all players with 15 tackles and posted a
game high 8 solo and 7 assisted tackles. Kadavy recorded
2.5 tackles for loss yardage (7 yards).
MSC
will return home to Stocker Stadium Saturday at Noon to host Adams
State College.
