Fall to #2 Fort Lewis College, 2-0
(MSC Holds Skyhawks Scoreless in First Half)

State men's soccer team battled the #2-ranked team in Division II
soccer Thursday afternoon in the Mavericks first RMAC game. Fort
Lewis (2-0-0 overall, 1-0-0 RMAC) scored two second half goals to
hand the Mavericks its second loss of the season (0-2-1 overall,
0-1-0 RMAC).
MSC
shutout the Skyhawks in the first half despite FLC's 6- first half
corner kicks and 10 shots. MSC's goalkeeper Josh Tinaglia
recorded five saves in the first half and nine in the game.
Following
a scoreless first half the Skyhawks scored what proved to be the
game winner on a header off a free kick by Paul Sanchez at the 61:25
mark. FLC's Kieran Hall found the left bottom corner of the net
off a pass by Casey Roberts with just seven minutes remaining in
regulation for a 2-0 lead.
MSC
recorded 10 shots to the Skyhawks 23 and was whistled for 14 fouls,
three more than the Skyhawks 11 fouls. MSC had two corner kicks
in the game, one in each half. MSC's Sam Dixon was given
a red card at the 65:27 mark, yet the Mavs continued to play strong
defense despite being down one player. Dixon led the Mavs
with three shots in the game.
MSC
will return to action the weekend of September 7 at Regis University
and at Metro State on September 9. MSC will return home to host
Colorado Mines on Friday, September 14.
