(MSC Holds Skyhawks Scoreless in First Half)
(August 30, 2007)

Mesa State men's soccer team battled the #2-ranked team in Division II soccer Thursday afternoon in the Mavericks first RMAC game. Fort Lewis (2-0-0 overall, 1-0-0 RMAC) scored two second half goals to hand the Mavericks its second loss of the season (0-2-1 overall, 0-1-0 RMAC).

MSC shutout the Skyhawks in the first half despite FLC's 6- first half corner kicks and 10 shots. MSC's goalkeeper Josh Tinaglia recorded five saves in the first half and nine in the game.

Following a scoreless first half the Skyhawks scored what proved to be the game winner on a header off a free kick by Paul Sanchez at the 61:25 mark. FLC's Kieran Hall found the left bottom corner of the net off a pass by Casey Roberts with just seven minutes remaining in regulation for a 2-0 lead.

MSC recorded 10 shots to the Skyhawks 23 and was whistled for 14 fouls, three more than the Skyhawks 11 fouls. MSC had two corner kicks in the game, one in each half. MSC's Sam Dixon was given a red card at the 65:27 mark, yet the Mavs continued to play strong defense despite being down one player. Dixon led the Mavs with three shots in the game.

MSC will return to action the weekend of September 7 at Regis University and at Metro State on September 9. MSC will return home to host Colorado Mines on Friday, September 14.
