Mavs Fall in Opening Weekend of RMAC Action
(MSC 0 at Regis 5, MSC 1 at Metro 4)
(September 10, 2007)

Mesa State men's soccer (0-4-1, 0-2-0) program playing in their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference league games lost on the road to Regis University and Metro State. In their first year of existence MSC has played opponents tough in the first half (giving up 2 goals), but have allowed 12 goals in four games in the second half of play.

After a scoreless first half at Regis on Friday, MSC allowed five second half goals as the Rangers shutout the Mavericks in both teams first RMAC game of the season. Regis had 18 shots, 13 in the second half and held MSC to just 3 total shots in the game. MSC was whistled for 5 yellow cards in the game and was forced to play with 10 men for the final 21 minutes of regulation.

Sunday at Metro State the Mavericks tied the game at one on a goal by Eric Anderson, his first of the season and the team's first goal in four games. The game remained close until the Roadrunners exploded for three second half goals. Metro gained momentum on a goal off a free kick (following an MSC yellow card) to break the 1-1 tie. Metro went on to score two more goals to solidify the victory.

Metro out shot MSC 19-4 with all four of the Mavs shots coming in the second half. The Roadrunners had 11 corner kicks (MSC-1) and the two teams combined for 35 fouls, including 5 yellow cards called on MSC.

Mesa State will return home to host Colorado Mines on Friday (1 PM) and Colorado Christian on Sunday (11 AM).
