Mesa State Places 18th at 2004 Central Region Meet
(Host Univ. of South Dakota - Vermillion S.D.)

Led by senior Melissa Hillier (Highlands Ranch, CO), the Mesa State Mavericks placed 18th at the 2004 North Central Region Meet at the Don Baker Cross Country Course in Vermillion, SD, earlier today.

In a field of over 158 runners, Hillier finished the 6K course in 24:23, setting a 6:24 pace for the first half of the race and 6:33 pace for the second half of the 6k race. Catherine Backes placed 75th overall in a time of 25:01, followed by Erin Griffin's 26:17 (111th place).

Adams State (20 points), defending national champions, took home top honors, placing five of the top seven finishers. Western State was second with 47 points, followed by host South Dakota's 144 points.

MSC's Anna Moseley ran the 6k course in 27:04 (124th), and Chris Busch in 27:15 (132nd).
