Mavericks Run Away with Title at Tom Strandt Memorial Run
(MSC's Towne and Martinez-Ramos Finish 1st, 2nd)

Mesa State women's cross country team running in their first meet of the 2007 season took home top honors at the 2007 Tom Strandt Memorial Run 5k race in Durango earlier today.

MSC's Samantha Towne crossed the finish line first in a time of 19.45. It was the best finish in Towne's career and the Mavs first ever top finish as a team and individual in the same meet. Teammate Esmeralda Martinez-Ramos placed second in a time of 20.23.

MSC had three of the top four places and placed four of its five runners in the top 10. Freshman Morgan Moore finished fourth with a time of 20.54. Senior Anna Moseley placed seventh crossing the line at 21.19. Janelle Haskins placed 12th overall in a time of 21.47. Andrea Ager recorded a time of 23.26 for 21st place.

The first place Mavericks finished ahead of host Fort Lewis College. The Skyhawks had two finishers in the top five, including Mallory Kneller who finished 3rd overall, just nine seconds ahead of the Mavs Morgan Moore (4th place). Western New Mexico finished third and Dine Community College placed fourth.

Mesa State will take this week off and prepare for the Western State Invitational in Gunnison on September 15.
