Improves to 5-3-1, Shutout Colo. Christian for League Victory

Mesa
State women's soccer team earned its first RMAC win in a 3-0 shutout
over Colorado Christian Sunday afternoon. MSC scored twice in the
first half just minutes apart for a 2-0 half-time lead. Kira
Brannan notched her third goal of the season on a penalty kick
at the 30:48 mark. Less than 1:30 later Stephanie Lee tallied
her first goal of the season off a pass from Jami Simpson.
MSC
recorded 11 shots in the first half and 21 in the second while holding
the Cougars to just six total shots in the contest. MSC had six
corner kicks in the game, all in the second half.
In
the second half with under nine minutes remaining in regulation
Deb Benson registered her second goal of the year. Goalkeeper
Kaitlin Bennett played all 90 minutes recording four saves.
Friday
afternoon MSC hosted Colorado School of Mines, falling to the Orediggers
3-1. After a scoreless first half, Mines took a 2-0 lead with just
over 20 minutes remaining in the game. MCS's Jami Simpson
scored off an assist from Lauren Sell to pull the Mavs to
within one with 10:30 left in the game. The Orediggers put the game
away on a goal off a direct kick with 2:35 remaining.
Despite
MSC's 29 shots the Mavs could not get the ball past Mines' goalkeeper
Briana Schulze but once. Schulze was credited with 18 saves in the
game.
MSC
will host New Mexico Highlands this Friday at 4 PM. Sunday morning
at 11 MSC will play CSU-Pueblo.
