(September 16, 2007)

Mesa State women's soccer team earned its first RMAC win in a 3-0 shutout over Colorado Christian Sunday afternoon. MSC scored twice in the first half just minutes apart for a 2-0 half-time lead. Kira Brannan notched her third goal of the season on a penalty kick at the 30:48 mark. Less than 1:30 later Stephanie Lee tallied her first goal of the season off a pass from Jami Simpson.

MSC recorded 11 shots in the first half and 21 in the second while holding the Cougars to just six total shots in the contest. MSC had six corner kicks in the game, all in the second half.

In the second half with under nine minutes remaining in regulation Deb Benson registered her second goal of the year. Goalkeeper Kaitlin Bennett played all 90 minutes recording four saves.

Friday afternoon MSC hosted Colorado School of Mines, falling to the Orediggers 3-1. After a scoreless first half, Mines took a 2-0 lead with just over 20 minutes remaining in the game. MCS's Jami Simpson scored off an assist from Lauren Sell to pull the Mavs to within one with 10:30 left in the game. The Orediggers put the game away on a goal off a direct kick with 2:35 remaining.

Despite MSC's 29 shots the Mavs could not get the ball past Mines' goalkeeper Briana Schulze but once. Schulze was credited with 18 saves in the game.

MSC will host New Mexico Highlands this Friday at 4 PM. Sunday morning at 11 MSC will play CSU-Pueblo.
