(Shutout Minn.-Duluth 4-0, Beat South Dakota 2-1 in OT)
(September 2, 2007)

Mesa State women's soccer team came from behind to defeat the University of South Dakota in overtime Sunday afternoon. The loss was the first for the Coyotes and kept the Mavs undefeated season in tact.

USD scored in the first half at the 14:16 mark and then was shutout by MSC's defense and a stellar performance by goalkeeper Madeline Gray. It was the first goal Gray has given up this season. Gray was credited with 5 saves, facing 6 shots on goal by the Coyotes.

MSC's Ashley Nemmers found the back of the net in the right lower corner off a pass from Mallory Reid to tie the game at the 78:18 mark. After just four shots in the first half by MSC the Mavs recorded 9 shots in the second half, out shooting USD, 16-14.

Christina Pauley scored the game winning goal just 3:47 in to the first overtime on a perfect feed from Stephanie Lee. Pauley took the pass and challenged USD's goalkeeper going one-on-one, finding the lower right corner of the net for the Mavs fourth victory of the year. It was Pauley's fourth goal of the year and third consecutive game winning goal.

Friday afternoon MSC shutout Minn.-Duluth 4-0, in a total team effort that saw four different players scoring in the Mavs third win of the year. Christina Pauley scored on a header off a pass from Autumn Espe at the 2:18 mark. The early goal set the tone as MSC went on to score one more goal in the first half; Katrina Hartfield's first goal of the year. (Stephanie Lee - assist).

Mesa State secured the win with two more goals late in the game. Jami Simpson's goal off an assist from Lauren Sell came with just under 8 minutes remaining in regulation. Sell scored (87:10) her fourth goal of the year after drawing the goalkeeper out of the net after taking a pass from Rachelle Ormond.

Madeline Gray and Kelsey Woodson combined for the shutout with 3 and 5 saves respectively. MSC had four corner kicks and out shot the Bulldogs 20-13.

MSC opens RMAC action on the road next week at Regis and Metro State.
