Soccer Win Two Straight, Beat Fort Lewis, NM Highlands

Mesa
State women's soccer team returned to RMAC action posting wins over
Ft. Lewis College and in a non-conference game, New Mexico Highlands.
Friday
afternoon at MSC Stadium the Mavericks fell behind Fort Lewis 0-2
in the first half but scored 3 unanswered goals for the 3-2 victory.
MSC's Stephanie Lee scored first to pull to within 1-2 at
half.
Senior
Deb Benson scored her third goal of the year minutes in to
the second half on a header off an assist from Lauren Sell
for a 2-2 tie. Four minutes later Sell scored what proved
to be the game winner on a penalty kick (52:38).
Fort
Lewis had 12 shots and 7 corner kicks in the game. MSC tallied 13
shots and 1 corner kick.
Goalkeeper
Madeline Gray was credited with one save.
Sunday
afternoon in Alamosa the Mavericks played New Mexico Highlands in
a non-conference match up. After a scoreless 90 minutes of play
the Mavs scored the winning goal 2:42 in to the first overtime.
Ashley
Nemmers tallied her third goal of the season (Rachelle Ormond
- assist) off a rebound off a header early in the overtime period.
MSC
had 25 shots on the day to the Cowgirls 7. Goalkeeper Kelsey
Woodson recorded her first shutout of the year while recording
2 saves.
MSC
will host Adams State College Friday at 4 pm.
