Mavs Drop 3 of 4 in Final Regular Season Series at Adams State
(Grizzlies Win RMAC West Division)
(Game One: 2-3, Game Two: 0-8, Game Three: 10-9, Game Four: 12-13)

Mesa State softball dropped 3 of 4 games in the final regular season series at Adams State College. Despite the loss of the series, the Mavericks are one of six teams who qualified for the 2008 RMAC Championship Tournament to be played in Golden, CO and hosted by Colorado School of Mines. The Orediggers earned the right to host the tournament and enter the tournament with the best RMAC record. Colorado Mines won the RMAC East Division title. MSC finished second in the west division.

Adams State swept Saturday's doubleheader with a 3-2 victory in game one and a five inning shutout, 8-0. In game one Adams State took a 2-0 lead in the second and held the lead until the sixth inning when the Maverick tied the game on a two run homerun by Leslie Reed. The Grizzlies answered back in their half, scoring the winning run on an RBI single by Grand Junction native, Lindsey Marsh.

Starter Jessica Rayman dropped to 11-8 with the loss. Rayman allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits, three walks and two strikeouts. MSC was limited to three hits in the game and committed two errors.

In game two the Grizzlies scored four runs in the second and four in the fifth for an 8-0 shutout victory. Adams State tallied 11 hits and held MSC to two back-to-back singles in the fourth. Starter Jessica Rayman allowed four runs on six hits and was credited with the loss. Kelsey McCoy pitched 2.1 innings giving up two runs on three hits and Alicia Neuschwanger allowed two runs on two hits in 0.1 inning.

Sunday's doubleheader had the Mavericks win game one 10-9 in a come from behind victory. MSC trailed 9-5 heading in to the sixth inning. MSC scored three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh on a game winning single by Jamie Prather. Samantha Wyatt went 4 for 5 and Katie Mitchell was 3 for 4 from the plate. Meagan Hennessy was 2 for 4 with four RBI. Alicia Neuschwanger was credited with the win, going 4.0 innings and picking up her 11th victory.

The RMAC West Division title came down to the final game between the Mavericks and Grizzlies. Adams State's three runs in the bottom of the 10th inning clinched the victory and the west division title. The game was tied at 9-9 after seven innings. Each team scored one run in the ninth and the Mavericks took a 12-10 lead heading in to the bottom of the 10th. Adams State started the inning with a ground out and a strike out before two singles and a walk loaded the bases. Alexis Araza hit a three run double to left center to seal the victory.

MSC will enter the RMAC Tournament as the number 4 seed and play number 5 seed, Fort Lewis College this Thursday at 9 a.m. in Golden. Host Colorado School of Mines enters the tournament as the number 1 seed.
