Mavericks Open New Stadium with Split versus Fort Lewis College
(Game One: 4-6, Game Two: 9-1)

Mesa State softball (13-9, 11-7) team opened its new on-campus softball stadium hosting Fort Lewis College (9-16-1, 5-9-1) in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. MSC dropped game one 6-4 after giving up four runs in the top of the seventh. Game two MSC defeated the Skyhawks 9-1 in six innings.

In game one MSC held a 4-2 lead heading in to the seventh when the Skyhawks scored four runs on four hits beginning with a leadoff homerun by Jenna Peters second homerun of the game. In the Mavs bottom half of the seventh the Skyhawks gave up a single with one out but closed out the game leaving one runner on.

Starter Jessica Rayman fell to 7-5 allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits, four walks and three strikeouts. Leslie Reed, Nicole Zuniga and Alissa Zoelle had two hits each.

MSC opened game two with a seven run first inning (three hits) helped along by two FLC errors. Anita Diaz hit a three-run homerun to left field in the first inning and hit a solo homerun in the second inning.

Starter Alicia Neuschwanger pitched four shutout innings, allowing two hits. Reliever Kelsey McCoy allowed one run in the fifth inning and walked two batters.

Leslie Reed ended the game in the sixth inning with an RBI single through the right side scoring pinch runner Elyce McKenna.

MSC will host CSU-Pueblo this weekend in a four game series beginning Saturday at Noon.

Saturday is Breast Cancer Awareness doubleheader day with all proceeds going to the Swing For Life campaign.
