Mavericks Split Series at New Mexico Highlands
(Game One: 3-7, Game Two: 17-4, Game Three: 5-7, Game Four: 7-6)

Mesa State softball improved to 20-12 and 18-10 in RMAC action following their weekend road trip to New Mexico Highlands. MSC split the four game series with the Cowgirls (8-34, 5-24).

Saturday's doubleheader saw the Cowgirls jump out to a 5-0 lead posting five runs in the third inning. MSC pulled to within 3-5 after the top of sixth but the Cowgirls answered back in the bottom of the sixth scoring two more runs and a 7-3 victory. MSC had just three hits and committed five errors in the game. Starter Alicia Neuschwanger fell to 8-6 overall allowing seven runs on 11 hits.

In game two MSC registered 22 hits in a 17-4 victory. MSC scored three runs in the first and held a 32 lead through four innings. The Mavericks posted seven runs in the fifth and sixth each and ran a way with their 19th win of the season. Six Maverick players posted double digit hits, including three hits each by Leslie Reed, Jamie Prather and Nicole Zuniga. Starter Jessica Rayman pitched 5.0 innings allowing four runs on seven hits. Rayman improved to 9-5 on the year.

New Mexico Highlands took game one Sunday, 7-5, scoring four runs in the second and holding on for the victory despite the Mavericks attempt at a late inning come back. MSC scored four runs in the sixth and one in the seventh before falling to the Cowgirls. MSC had 11 hits in the game and left eight runners stranded. NMHU registered 12 hits, leaving seven runners on base.

In the series final game MSC scored at least one run in all but two innings and took the lead for good in the sixth inning after allowing the Cowgirls to erase a 5-0 MSC lead in the bottom of the third inning. NMHU scored five runs in their half of the third on three hits and two Maverick errors. MSC committed six errors in the game, but out hit the Cowgirls, 12-8.

MSC will travel to Durango to play Regis University in a doubleheader on Saturday. On Sunday MSC will play two against Metro State.
