Mavs Season Ends at RMAC Tournament
(Game 1 vs. Ft. Lewis: 1-7, Game 2 vs. Western N. M. : 8-4, Game 3 vs. Metro: 0-8)

Mesa State softball team went 1-2 at the 2008 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament in Golden, Colorado, hosting by the Colorado School of Mines. The Mavericks finish the season 26-21 overall.

MSC entered the double-elimination tournament as the number 4 seed against the number 5 seed, Fort Lewis College in the opening round on Friday afternoon. The Skyhawks won 7-1 and allowed the Mavericks just three hits. FLC took a 4-0 in to the bottom of the sixth before MSC was able to get on the board on a solo home run by Alissa Zoelle. FLC added three more runs in their half of the seventh for the victory. Starter Jessica Rayman allowed three runs on four hits and was credited with the loss. Kelsey McCoy pitched 3.1 inning and allowed four runs on six hits.

In elimination game Friday afternoon MSC defeated number 8 seed Western New Mexico 8-4. The Mustangs lost their first round game, falling 16-1 to host and number one seed, Colorado School of Mines.

MSC broke a 2-2 tie after the first with six runs in the second and an 8-2 lead. The Mustangs were able to add one run in the third and one in the seventh, before falling 8-4. WNMU had more hits than MSC (10-9) but committed four errors in the game.

Saturday morning in elimination game the Mavericks faced number 3 seed Metro State. The Roadrunners scored at least one run in five of the six innings on their way to an 8-0 shut out victory. Metro scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and ended the game early on the run rule.

Metro State out hit the Mavericks 13-3 and registered at least one hit in all but the third inning. MSC committed three errors in the game. Starter Jessica Rayman eight runs (six earned) on 13 hits and registered two strikeouts.

Senior Leslie Reed had two of the Mavs three hits and Katie Mitchell was 1 or 2 from the plate.

Fort Lewis College won the RMAC tournament and will advance to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament to be played in San Angelo, Texas (hosted by Angelo State).
