Mavs Open up RMAC Play with Loses on New Mexico Trip

Mesa
State Women's Volleyball team was away this weekend as they traveled
to face Western New Mexico on Friday night and New Mexico Highlands
on Saturday.
The
Lady Mavs (4-6) fought hard to keep it close, but lost to Western
N.M. (6-4) 28-30, 24-30, 26-30. The Mustangs, who were picked to
finish right behind the Mavs as number 2 in the West in the preseason
polls, hit .312 with 44 total kills while MSC hit .130. Alisan
Tompkins led all players with 13 kills, while Drew Choules
led the way for the Mavs with 3 blocks and 6 kills on the night.
Dara Waialae contributed 29 set assists including 3 service
aces and 6 digs.
Saturday
night MSC took Highlands (3-8) to 4 games, 14-30, 19-30, 30-27,
30-32, but ended up adding an extra loss to the season. Highlands
only recorded 6 more kills than MSC (48-42) but the Mavs had 13
more errors on the night (28-15). Brittany Benningsdorf led
the way for the MSC with 10 kills, while Choules was right
behind adding 9 kills. Waialae and Krista Ubersox
contributed 16 assists each, while Ubersox also had 8 defensive
digs to go along with Ashley Loftsgard's 12 digs.
The
Lady Mavs are at Brownson Arena for the first time this season this
weekend as they take on CSU-Pueblo on Friday and Adams State on
Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 7 PM.
