to Host First Round Playoff Game
Mesa
State defeated Western State 65-58 Thursday night to clinch a home
playoff berth next Friday, February 29, 7 PM at Brownson Arena.
It will be the first playoff appearance for the Mavericks under
fourth year head coach Timi Brown.
MSC
was led by Kelsie Gourdin's game high 17 points and senior
Cassie Hutto's 11 points and game high nine rebounds in the
victory.
The
Mavericks held a 33-27 half-time lead and never trailed in the second
half although the Mountaineers pulled to within three points with
38 seconds remaining in regulation. MSC went 6-for-6 from the foul
line to seal the victory.
Tuesday
night MSC hosted #21 ranked Ft. Lewis College falling to the Skyhawks
59-41. The win improved FLC to 25-1 overall and 18-0 in RMAC play.
Gourdin
was the only Maverick to score in double figure, finishing with
11 points and 10 rebounds. MSC shot 29.1 percent from the floor
and turned the ball over 24 times.
Ft.
Lewis held just a two point lead at half (26-24) but went on a 16-4
run to start the second half. The Skyhawks held a double digit lead
the rest of the way to remain undefeated in conference action.
MSC
will host a team to be determined after the final regular season
concludes Saturday night.
