Mavericks Streak Snapped, Split Road Games in New Mexico
(MSC beats Highlands, Fall to Western New Mexico)

Mesa State (12-11, 10-5 RMAC) had its six game win streak snapped Saturday night dropping a 10-point contest to Western New Mexico, 66-56. Thursday night the Mavericks beat New Mexico Highland 87-63.

RMAC West Division Player of the Week, Kelsie Gourdin scored a game high 19 points in the Mavs victory at New Mexico Highlands. Gourdin was 7-of-8 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line. Five players recorded double digits figures; Brittany Fowler finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. Jacie Bendure Birt had a career high 13 points off the bench, Abby Hancock added 12 points and Hannah Breidel 10 points.

MSC held a 45-19 half-time lead and led by as many as 36 points in the second half. MSC shot 48 percent (30-62) from the field and held the Cowgirls to 27.8 percent (20-72) from the field.

Saturday night Western New Mexico (3-19, 3-12) used a strong second half, outscoring MSC 40-22 for a 66-56 victory, snapping MSC's eight game win streak.

Despite an eight point Maverick half-time lead (34-26) the Mustangs shot 51.9 percent in the second half and 11-of-16 from the foul line. MSC was 0-for-6 from the foul line in the second half. MSC was out rebounded 33-25 and committed 14 second half turnovers.

Abby Hancock led the Mavericks with 16 points going 5-of-6 from the floor and 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Cassie Hutto added 11 points and Gourdin finished with 10.

MSC returns home this weekend to host CSU-Pueblo and Adams State Friday and Saturday night. Both games are scheduled to tip-off at 6 PM.
