Timi Brown - Head Coach
Coach
Brown enters her fourth season at the helm of the Mesa State College
women's basketball program.
This season the Mavericks return three starters including the 2007-2008
RMAC Preseason Player of the Year, Brittany Fowler.
Coach Brown guided the team to a 17-11 overall record in 2006-2007.
The Mavericks finished 4th in the RMAC West Division and earned
their first post season tournament berth in the RMAC Shootout under
Coach Brown.
Last season MSC ranked second in the league in scoring offense averaging
74 points per game. The Mavs led the conference in field goal percentage
(.458) and 3-point field goal percentage (.378). RMAC West Division
Player of the Year, Brittany Fowler led the league in scoring averaging
18 points per game.
In
2005-'06 the Mavericks ranked fourth in the league in scoring (70.4
points per/game) third in assists (16.11 assists per/game), fifth
in steals (10.67 steals per/game) and sixth in field goal percentage
(.420). From beyond the arc the team ranked second overall in 3-point
shots made (7.0 per game) and third in 3-point field goal percentage
(.387).
Prior
to her arrival at Mesa State, Coach Brown was the head coach at
Odessa College (TX) where she guided the Wranglers to the Western
Junior College Athletic Conference championship in 2004 with a 25-5
record, and a berth to the NJCAA regional tournament.
She
was named Western Junior College Athletic Conference Coach of the
Year and her team held a national ranking as high as number 18 in
the country. Over a 14 year career including high school, junior
college and Division II, she has coached two all-Americans, numerous
all-conference players, academic all-Americans and won numerous
conference championships.
A
native of Carson City, Nevada, Brown is a 1991 graduate of the University
of Arizona, where she earned her bachelor's degree in exercise physiology.
She played basketball for the Wildcats, was CO-captain her junior
and senior year, leaving the school as the all-time leading scorer
(1,315 points).
Following her graduation from University of Arizona, she was an
assistant coach at Fullerton College (Calif.) for two years. From
1994-1996 she was head women's varsity coach at San Pasqual High
School in Escondido, California, where she coached the team to its
first winning record in school history. In 1996 to 1998 she was
the assistant coach at Rio Hondo College in Whittier, Calif.
Coach Brown attended the University of Northern Colorado in 1998-1999
where she served as the assistant women's coach and earned her master's
degree in Physical Education/Sports Administration in 1999. Following
the completion of her master's degree she was the head coach at
Monterey Peninsula College (Calif.), leading the team to a division
title and the regional playoffs for the first time in the program's
history.
Brown
was named head coach at Odessa College in 2001, compiling a 52-33
overall record in three years. She led the team to two regional
tournaments (2004, 2003) and 13 wins against nationally ranked teams.
Coach Brown was named Conference Coach of the Year following the
2004 season in which she guided the Wranglers to the WJCAC Conference
title and an 11-1 record. While at Odessa College she coached two
NJCAA first team All-Americans, five all-region players and 10 all-conference
performers. She had eight student athletes transfer to four year
schools and was ranked in the top 10 by the Women's Basketball Coaches
Association basketball team honor roll.
Coach Brown is an instructor in the Department of Kinesiology. During
the summer she is Assistant Director of the Mesa State College Basketball
Camps.

Assistant
Coach: Andy Gurzick
Coach
Gurzick begins his fourth season as the assistant women's basketball
coach at Mesa State College.
A
graduate of Western State College, Gurzick was a four-year letterwinner
for the Mountaineers, earning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference
league honors and Mountaineer team honors.
In the summer of 2004, Andy assisted the WNBA Indiana Fever as a
volunteer scout, helping with daily practices, keeping game statistics
and assisting with individual player workouts. When not with the
Indiana Fever he worked as a basketball trainer with 100% Hoops
LLC., a basketball training company geared toward the development
of fundamental skills and performance training for youth, college
and professional basketball athletes.
Aside from his coaching duties Andy is the MSC Camp Coordinator,
in charge of overseeing all summer camps associated with MSC's intercollegiate
varsity athletics.
Coach Gurzick graduated from Western State with a bachelor's degree
in Environmental Biology and Ecology in 2003.
