COACHING STAFF
Head
Coach: Dan MacDonald (3rd year)
Coach MacDonald enters his third season as the head men's and women's
tennis coach.
Under Coach MacDonald's guidance in 2006-2007 the women's team were
crowned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season champion
and RMAC Tournament Champion. The women earned an NCAA Division
II tournament berth. Coach MacDonald was named 2007 RMAC Women's
Coach of the Year.
MacDonald,
a graduate of Mesa State College, played for the Mavericks in 1991
and 1992. He has been teaching tennis for 15 years in the grand
valley and has served as the Assistant Director of Tennis at The
Tennis Center of Grand Junction since 2001.
MacDonald also served as a United States Tennis Association (USTA)
Team Coach, Junior Tennis Academy Traveling Tennis Coach and Director
of the Grand Valley Junior Tennis Academy.
Prior to being named Head Teaching Professional at the Grand Valley
Racquet Club, a post he held for six years, he was the assistant
coach at Grand Junction High School and head coach at Fruita Monument.
He served as Director of Tennis for the City of Grand Junction Parks
and Recreation Department from 1992-1995.
As a player for Mesa State College in 1991 the team qualified for
the NAIA National Championship. In 1992 he was runner-up at the
Colorado Division II Championship and placed fourth at the Rolex
Championship. His collegiate career began at Cowley County Community
College (Arkansas City, KS) in 1989 as a member of the Junior College
Division II National Championship team. In 1990 the team finished
third. He was a two-time All-America selection in singles and doubles.
MacDonald holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from
Mesa State. He is a National Tennis Rating Professional (NTRP) verifier
and is a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) certified
tennis instructor. Since 1996 he has held the sales associate and
customer service position with Refrigeration Hardware Supply.
Dan, a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, is married to Tara Marshall-MacDonald.
They have one son, Donovan (7) and a daughter Samantha (1).
Assistant
Coach: Brandon Gregg (1st year)
Coach
Gregg enters his first season as the men's and women's assistant
coach. A native of Grand Junction, Gregg returns to the valley after
attending Colorado School of Mines. He is enrolled at MSC pursuing
a degree in mathematics and education. An outstanding student athlete,
Gregg maintains a 4.0 GPA.
A
graduate of Grand Junction High School where he was a four-time
varsity letterwinner for the Tigers tennis team. He is the assistant
director of the Mesa County Tennis Program held each summer on the
Mesa State College campus.
