Mavs Drop Two on the Road
(Fall to Colorado Christian, Metro State)

Mesa State (1-7, 0-2) fell to Colorado Christian Friday night in the opening game of RMAC action, 59-51.

The Cougars led 27-22 at half as CCU jumped out to a 20-4 lead to start the game. MSC pulled to within six on a 10-0 run of their own and closed out the first half trailing by just five.

CCU trailed just once in the second half when the Mavs took a 41-40 lead on a jumper by Cassie Hutto with 10:46 remaining. CCU took the lead back next trip down the floor, a lead they did not relinquish.

MSC shot 37.1 percent from the floor (23-62) and the Cougars, 35.2 percent (19-54) but CCU went to the foul line 23 times (14-23) while MSC was at the line just six times (2-6). CCU finished 7-of-23 from the three-point line and MSC was 3-of-19 from beyond the arc.

MSC was led by Cassie Hutto's 12 points and eight rebounds. Brittany Fowler finished with 11 points and four rebounds.

Saturday night at the Auraria Events Center in Denver the Metro State Roadrunners had four players score in double figures on their way to a 73-45 victory over the Mavericks.

Metro led the entire game as the Mavs struggled shooting from the floor. Metro held the Mavs to 4-of-29 (13.8%) field goals in the second half. MSC's Hannah Breidel had a career high 11 points, the only Mav to score in double figures. Cassie Hutto pulled down a team high nine rebounds.

MSC will host Neb.-Kearney at Brownson Arena Thursday night. Saturday evening the Mavericks will play Chadron State. Both games are set to tip-off at 6 pm.
