Major: Fine Arts

Interests: Outdoor activities such as skiing, mountain biking and rock climbing

Favorite thing about Mesa State College: The teacher to student ratio is great and the teachers are really passionate about their subjects. I also like the accessibility of the labs and materials.

Why did you choose Mesa State College?
Growing up in this area, I knew several people who were attending Mesa State and they had a lot of positive things to say. I also enjoy living in this area and participating in all of the outdoor activities that are available.

What are some of the opportunities you have taken advantage of?
One opportunity that I have taken advantage of is the free student seminars, like financial planning, which have been really helpful to me. Another fun activity is the Outdoor Program's "Wednesday night wanderings" where people talk about different adventures.

Who are your favorite professors and why?
One of my favorite professors is Charles Hardy, a professor of fine arts. He is passionate about fine arts and has taught me new techniques I wouldn't have considered otherwise. Gabriel Myer-Hunke, an English professor, was another one of my favorite instructors because she just had an overall fun class. She was one of my first professors and she really made an impact on the rest of my schooling.

What have been some of your favorite classes and why?
The first class I would pick as my favorite would be figure drawing because we were able to experiment with new ideas. Cultural Anthropology was another class I liked because we learned some interesting new concepts. One class that allowed me to take my writing to a new level was Play Writing, so that is another class among my favorites.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?
I probably would like to travel and use my experiences to enhance my creativity.

What would you recommend to a freshman just starting out at Mesa State?
They should take a new class that will challenge them, like something that sounds interesting that they haven't tried before.

What does your education/degree mean to you personally?
I always wanted to be an artist and I've always enjoyed school, so this gives me the opportunity to do what I like to do.

What are your greatest accomplishments at Mesa State?
Trying new art styles that I have never tried before, like three dimensional and pottery, I have come to appreciate more styles of art.
