Western Undergraduate Exchange

The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Tuition Program allows eligible students from participating states to enroll at a reduced tuition rate. WUE students pay Colorado in-state tuition plus 50% (150 % of Colorado in-state tuition) plus student fees. For example:

*Hawaiian students are eligible for consideration only if admitted to MSC in four-year, degree-seeking programs.

Please Note: Being a resident of one of the WUE states does not guarantee your acceptance into the WUE program.

How do I apply for WUE?
Before students are considered for WUE, they must first complete the admissions process by submitting an Application for Undergraduate Admission and providing all necessary transcripts and test scores. Whether applying on-line or with a paper application, students should mark the box stating they want to be considered for WUE. Students should also send a photocopy of their state driver's license to prove residency in their WUE state. WUE is available when beginning in either the fall or spring semesters, but is not available during the summer session. Only students attending Mesa State College for the first time as a freshman or transfer student with a cumulative 2.0 or higher GPA will be considered. Admitted students with a 3.0 or above GPA may also be considered for an additional award.

What is the duration of my WUE award?
That depends. If you are a new freshman you are eligible for four years, or eight consecutive semesters (fall and spring only; summer term is ineligible). New transfer students are awarded based on their current number of credit hours and may be eligible for one, two, or three years.

What are the requirements to continue my WUE award?
If you are awarded WUE, you will receive a letter outlining the following conditions:

  • Duration of award in consecutive fall/spring semesters (excluding summer)
  • Enrollment in and completion of at least 12 credit hours each semester
  • Maintain a minimum 2.0 MSC GPA each semester
  • Remain a permanent resident of the WUE state from which you were awarded*
  • Complete the reapplication process via a letter that will be mailed to you in June of each year. You will be required to attach a copy of your state driver's license.
    * Time accrued while receiving WUE will NOT contribute toward the length of time required for establishing Colorado residency status.
