Matriculation Fee
Effective Fall 2002, the State Colleges of Colorado Board has
approved a Matriculation Fee for Mesa State College. This fee
consolidated several administrative fees which were previously
charged separately to students, and will become a one time charge
for all new and transfer students with a phase-in over a two-year
period for continuing students. With the matriculation fee, degree
seeking students will no longer pay separate fees for such things
as add/drop, career placement, credential (resume) services, graduation
(petition), Maverick card, transcript, and orientation.
Understanding the Matriculation
Fee
How much is the Matriculation Fee?
Effective the Fall 2002 Semester, the Matriculation Fee for
Mesa State College will be assessed as follows:
New Undergraduates (first-time $125, one time, during matriculation
freshmen/first-time transfers) term
Are all students considered matriculated?
A matriculated student is one who is both admitted and enrolled
as a degree- seeking student at Mesa State College. Thus, a
student's "matriculation term" is the first term in
which a student is both admitted and enrolled at Mesa
If it's a Matriculation Fee, why do continuing and returning
students have to pay it?
During the two-year phase-in plan, continuing and returning
students would share in the financial impact of the matriculation
fee. Since all students will use the services for which fees
are assessed (transcripts, graduation, etc.), the cost will
be shared among all degree-seeking students during the phase-in
period.
What fees are being replaced?
- Transcript fees (both official and unofficial)
- Application for Graduation fees (Petition for Graduation)
- Career Placement fee
- Orientation fee
- Maverick Card fee (first card only)
- Add/Drop of Class(es) fee
- Credential (Resume) Services - up to 2 years post graduation
After their first term, do new students pay the $5 continuing
student fee?
No. During the two-year phase-in period, only those continuing
and returning students who matriculated before the Fall 2002
Semester will pay $5 per semester. New students who matriculate
the Fall 2002 Semester and after will not be assessed additional
Matriculation Fees as continuing students in subsequent semesters.
Any student who believes they have been assessed incorrectly
should contact the Business Office located in LHH 102 or by
calling (970) 248-1567.
When will the Matriculation Fee be assessed?
Beginning the Fall 2002 Semester, the Matriculation Fee will
be assessed to students upon class registration.
If a student does a complete withdrawal in their matriculation
term, will they be assessed the Matriculation Fee?
Students who withdraw on the first day of classes or after
will be assessed the Matriculation Fee. Those students who do
a complete withdrawal from Mesa State College before the first
day of classes or during their matriculation term with a 100%
refund, will not be assessed the fee.
Will students pay the Matriculation Fee again if they move
from undergraduate to graduate level students at Mesa State College?
No. New degree-seeking students will be expected to pay the
fee once and only once.
Is the Matriculation Fee refundable if none of the covered
services were used?
No. Mandatory fees are not refundable, and "opting out"
of a portion of the fee is not possible.
Do Continuing Education, High School, or Non-Degree Seeking
students pay the Matriculation Fee?
No. These students are considered non-degree seeking students.
However, the "new undergraduate/graduate" Matriculation
Fee will be assessed when a student becomes degree seeking.
If Continuing Education, High School, or Non-Degree Seeking
students are not required to pay the Matriculation Fee, will they
pay separately for those services covered by the Matriculation
Fee?
No. These students will not be required to pay for transcripts
or for add/drop fees. Other Matriculation Fee-related services
do not apply.
Do re-enrolling students pay the Matriculation Fee?
Previously matriculated students who re-enroll/re-register
during 2002-2003 and 2004-2005 will pay $5 per semester as continuing
students during the two-year phase-in period. Beginning the
Fall Semester of 2005, re-enrolling/re-registering students
will not pay a Matriculation Fee, regardless of their actual
matriculation semester. These students will also be eligible
for matriculation-related services, even if they have never
paid a Matriculation Fee.
Do faculty and staff who take classes pay the Matriculation
Fee?
Yes (just as they would with other student fees). This would
apply to first-time time students and the two-year plan listed
above. Faculty and staff who take courses as non-degree seeking
students do not pay the matriculation fee.
