Application and Program Information
Master of Arts in Education

Mesa State College began the delivery of the Master of Arts in Education degree programs in the Summer of 2007. Two programs are available for application - Educational Leadership and English For Speakers of Other Languages.

Programs
The Master of Arts degree consists of 34 credit hours: 24 credit hours in the content area and 10 credit hours of CORE subject courses. The endorsement is approved for the State of Colorado and consists of 24 credit hours in the content area (the CORE is only required for those pursuing the MA degree).

Application Requirements
Please submit the following materials to apply to either MA in Education and/or endorsement program.

  • Completed Graduate Studies Application
  • $50 Application Fee
  • Results of Graduate Record Exam (GRE) - contact MSC Testing & Assessment Center for more information 970.255.2750 - Mesa State's institutional code is R4484- not required of those with Master's degrees who are applying for Endorsement only
  • Official Transcripts of undergraduate degree and graduate (if applicable) institutions attended
  • Two (2) letters of professional recommendation (Form B)
  • Evidence of active involvement with youth in an educational context (Form C)
  • Statement of Purpose commenting on your personal educational philosophy and interest in the program (Form D)

NOTE……

  • Those applying for Educational Leadership program MUST have a valid teaching license
  •  For Summer 2007 entry - Submission of GRE scores may not be possible prior to the start of the program. Interested students are encouraged to apply as this will not eliminate an applicant from the program.

Admission Requirements
Mesa State College encourages application from all individuals meeting the following criteria, upon which competitive selection will be made by the committee:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Evidence of strong academic background and ability to pursue advanced study
  • Evidence of dedication and promise to the field of education as a professional leader
  • Excellent English reading, writing, and critical thinking skills
  • Competence in the use of education technology
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
  • GRE (Graduate Record Exam) scores - submit scores within the first semester of enrollment - not required of those with Master's degrees who are applying for Endorsement only
  • Evidence of active involvement with youth in an educational context (Form C)

Additional Fees

  • $5 per student fee for mass transit and an environmental fee.
  • $125 matriculation fee for first-time degree seeking students will be assessed the first semester.

Financial Aid
Need based financial aid is not available for this graduate program. Students interested in scholarship opportunities can use web-based scholarship search engines such as www.Fastweb.com or www.SRNExpress.com or www.scholarships.com. Students may also want to explore private loans through local lending institutions.


Registering for Courses
Once you've been accepted to the program you will receive your MSC ID number. It is often called your 700 number. This will be your student ID throughout your enrollment at Mesa State College. Registration will be handled for graduate students by our Coordinator.
