A conversation with Dr. Gordon
What other teaching positions have you had prior
to Mesa State?
I taught in Washington, D.C., at Gallaudet University. I
taught Spanish to deaf students. I started in 1989 and worked
there for eight years.
What do you like to do outside of teaching here at Mesa?
I am an interpreter and translator. I'm also into skiing,
biking and hiking. And, given the chance, I like to travel.
Anything interesting you can tell me about traveling?
As a student, I studied in Europe. Later, I took two blind
students from Mesa State to the running of the bulls. When
I was at Gallaudet, we traveled to Spain but occupied ourselves
with other activities. I also have family in South America
and visit them on occasion
What is your food preference?
I am probably the only Spanish professor who isn't a fan
of spicy food. I like bland food.
Is there an issue or topic that you feel strongly
about?
Academic freedom - the idea of freedom of expression
within academics.
