POSITION TITLE: Admissions Counselor/
Ambassador Coordinator
RESPONSIBILITIES: Ambassador
Coordinator responsibilities include managing the Student Ambassador
team, which represents Mesa State College to prospective students
and their parents. Provides leadership, mentoring, direction,
and supervision on tele-counseling, campus touring, and program
participation; provides individual communication with prospective
students. Works directly with the selection, supervision, and
coordination of Student Ambassadors, monitors and evaluates daily
performance, assigns duties related to recruitment events and
other ongoing projects. Monitors Ambassadors' attendance and performance
at campus visitation programs, group and individual tours, and
tele-counseling. Plans Ambassadors' retreat, office hours, community
service, and other activities. When warranted, makes and enforces
disciplinary decisions. Provides exemplary student leadership.
Admissions Counselor responsibilities
include making in-office presentations to prospective students
and parents, answering daily phone inquiries, counseling walk-in
traffic, and participating in staff meetings. Utilizing effective
interpersonal skills, Admissions Counselors work independently
and in teams, and must exhibit honesty, tact and integrity relating
to campus policies, student records and office/campus working
protocols.
Within their assigned territories,
the Admissions Counselor is responsible for recruitment goal setting,
scheduling visits, maintaining records, identifying demographic
trends, and building relationships with high school and community
college personnel and other prospects through various methods
of communication.
Performs preliminary financial aid,
scholarship, and career counseling, spotlighting the related benefits
of MSC to the prospective student, as well as counseling with
parents and high school and college counselors about admission
to both MSC and Western Colorado Community College. Must maintain
a high awareness of MSC and WCCC admission requirements. Assists
students with some advising and course registration. Tactfully,
carefully, and in consideration of college policies, manages individual
complaints, disputes and grievances relative to all facets of
the admission process. Within established guidelines and policies,
considers waivers of normal application fees and other elements
that contribute to increased enrollment and student retention.
Assists students with some advising and course registration. Works
with other MSC offices on recruitment activities. Some travel
and evening/weekend work required. Performs other duties as assigned
by the Associate Director and Director of Admissions.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution is required.
One year of experience in the area of higher education admissions,
program planning, and recruiting is preferred. Must have a working
knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated knowledge of
activities relating to the recruitment and retention of all students,
with particular emphasis on multicultural and other students of
diverse background, desired. Must possess and maintain valid driver's
license.
