ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY

The Department of Biology at Mesa State College invites applications from broadly trained plant biologists for a tenure track Assistant Professor to begin August 2008.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching 12 credits per semester, participation on campus committees, fostering undergraduate research opportunities and scholarship. Teaching responsibilities will include lower-division majors/non-majors courses and upper-division courses within his/her specialty.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Ph.D. in Biology is required by August 2008. Applicants must have a strong passion for undergraduate teaching and mentoring, as well as a commitment to service, research and scholarship. Preference will be given to those broadly trained plant biologists with an emphasis in plant physiology and plant pathology. Knowledge of the western U.S. flora is preferred.

SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience. Includes an excellent health and retirement benefits package.

THE COLLEGE: Mesa State College is a state-supported baccalaureate institution of approximately 6,100 students. The college has a major commitment to science and liberal arts education and to the encouragement of scholarship. Located 250 miles west of Denver, Grand Junction is situated in the Colorado River Valley on the Western Slope of the Rockies. Recreational opportunities abound year-round in the area including some of the finest kayaking, skiing, mountain biking, hiking and fishing in the country.
