ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
Lecturer of Music - Oboe
Principal Oboe of the Grand Junction Symphony
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Mesa State College
Music Department and the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra are seeking
an outstanding oboe performer and teacher. Primary responsibilities
are to teach applied oboe and recruit oboe and bassoon majors for
Mesa State, and to perform as principal oboe of the Grand Junction
Symphony Orchestra. Additional responsibilities are to teach Music
Appreciation, coach a student woodwind ensemble, perform in the
Faculty Woodwind Quintet and coordinate the educational outreach
program for the Grand Junction Symphony. The candidate must demonstrate
a commitment to recruiting oboe and bassoon students, developing
a rapport with regional directors, commitment to teaching academic
courses, and fulfilling the commitments of principal oboe of the
Grand Junction Symphony.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Masters
required, doctorate preferred. Demonstrated excellence in teaching
and performing. Orchestral experience required.
SALARY: $23,400.00 per year. Excellent health
and retirement benefits package.

APPOINTMENT: Shared position as Lecturer
of Music at Mesa State College (2/3 time) and Principal Oboe, Grand
Junction Symphony Orchestra (part time), to begin August 15, 2008.
LOCATION: Grand Junction is located in western
Colorado and is nestled below three mountain ranges, the Colorado
National Monument, the Grand Mesa and the Bookcliffs. Grand Junction
and the greater Grand Valley have a population of approximately
115,000 residents, and is the largest city between Denver and Salt
Lake City. Close proximity to Aspen, Vail and Telluride provide
performance opportunities for an active musician. There is good
potential to develop a private studio outside of the college.
THE COLLEGE and DEPARTMENT: Mesa State College
is one of the fastest growing public colleges in Colorado with an
enrollment of approximately 6,200 students, and is committed to
the Music Department as a cultural leader of the region. The Music
Department is located in the new Moss Performing Arts Center, which
houses a 288-seat Recital Hall, 620-seat theater, two large rehearsal
halls, 13 faculty studios, a new piano/technology lab with 16 stations,
as well as classrooms and practice rooms. Mesa State offers a Bachelor
of Arts degree in Music with concentrations in Music Education and
Performance. Concentrations in Liberal Arts and Elective Studies
in Business will be offered within the year.
THE GRAND JUNCTION SYMPHONY: The Grand Junction
Symphony Orchestra is an auditioned community orchestra with a full-time
conductor and broad community support performing approximately one
concert a month between August and May. It is the major orchestra
between Denver and Salt Lake City, enlisting musicians from the
western slope of Colorado and eastern Utah. For more information
