Financial Aid Application Steps

Students gathered around a laptop to conveniently fill out their online FAFSA application.

Step 1:

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applications can be filled out online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. There are FAFSA worksheets available in your financial aid office to assist you in filling out the web application. If you have any question or concerns about filling out your online FAFSA application, please contact the Mesa State College Office of Financial Aid.

Step 2:

In 2-3 weeks from the date that you completed and submitted the FAFSA, it will be reviewed and processed by the financial aid office to determine whether you are eligible for need-based assistance. Your calls are encouraged in order to check the status of your online application, but please wait the estimated time before inquiring.

Step 3:

If additional documentation is necessary, the financial aid office will be contacting you via mail and/or email with the request. If no extra documentation is needed, you will receive an "Award Letter" in the mail if you are a first-time student. Otherwise, you will be awarded on your MavZone account.

Step 4:

Return the award letter to the Financial Aid Office accepting or rejecting each item on the award, or accept/decline your award through MavZone. You may mail your signed award letter to:

Mesa State College
Financial Aid Office
1100 North Avenue
Grand Junction, CO 81501
or Fax to:

Important Note:

All male citizens of the U.S. and immigrant aliens, ages 18 through 25, must be registered with the U.S. Selective Service System to be eligible for federal student loans and grants. Men can register at any post office or register online at www.sss.gov/regist.htm. There is also a location on the online FAFSA online to opt to be automatically registered if you haven't previously done so.
