The Western Colorado Community Foundation (WCCF) exists to promote charitable giving, to build and manage charitable endowment funds, and to provide grants, scholarships, and other resources to benefit the residents and communities of Western Colorado. The foundation is regional and serves Delta, Eagle, Garfield, Mesa, Montrose, Ouray and Rio Blanco counties. This application includes:
1. Fruita Rotary Club Scholarship - Must graduate from Fruita Monument High School and be involved in Interact (Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people ages 14-18. The program gives young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends.) Two scholarships, $1,000 each, non-renewable. Deadline: April 24, 2009
2. Genevieve Clough Fellowship - Awarded to graduating seniors from Coal Ridge High School (Silt), Rifle High School and Grand Valley High School (Parachute). Financial assistance is available for vocational training programs, two-year associate degree and four-year college degree programs in any area of study of interest to the student. Student must have lived in western Garfield County for at least one year before high school graduation or completion of GED. Multiple scholarships are available. Any student with financial need is eligible to apply and scholarships are awarded for “last dollars needed” to help the student with his or her post high school education. 3. J. Robert Young Scholarship - Awarded to graduating seniors from public high schools in locations that Alpine Bank serves. Scholarships are based on financial need and are awarded to students seeking a business related degree who have a grade point average in the 2.75-3.0 range. 5. Kay Armstrong Memorial Scholarship: Delta County graduating high school seniors who have been active in community service and who are successful scholastically are eligible to apply. Five scholarships are given annually and are renewable for 4 years. One of the candidates chosen must be an aspiring teacher. Deadline to be announced.
6. Laura R. Genelin Memorial Scholarship - Awarded to a senior graduating from an Eagle County public high school with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, who wants to become a teacher or study health and medicine. The 2009 amount is $1,000 and is non-renewable. Deadline: April 1, 2009
7. Lew Goodhart Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must be a legal resident of the State of Colorado and enrolled in a Colorado educational facility and must have completed a minimum of 15 college credit hours. Financial need will constitute the primary eligibility for a scholarship. All potential sources of financial support will be evaluated including financial status of spouse and/or parents/guardians (where applicable) and other scholarships and/or grants. The applicant must be in good academic standing with a Grade Point Average between 2.0 and 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. (In exceptional cases, an applicant with a Grade Point Average above 3.5 may be considered. However, primary consideration must be given to those applicants whose Grade Point Average falls within the 2.0-3.5 range.) The applicant must have identified his/her career objectives and demonstrated motivation and ability to complete a degree or certification in his/her chosen field of employment. Conviction for a felony or a misdemeanor, if sentencing conditions are being met or have been met, will not be a disqualifying factor. Race, religion, age, ethnicity, physical or mental handicap, or sexual preference will not be considerations for or against eligibility for a scholarship. The primary goal of the fund is to assist those persons who have demonstrated the desire, ability, and determination to complete an education that will enable them to be self-sufficient and who, without financial assistance, would be unable to do so.
