Freshman Year Initiative
August 10-15, 2008
August 7-15, 2008 (Student athletes only)

The transition from high school to college is a major step. We encourage you to get a jump-start on your college career and join other first-year freshmen in the Freshman Year Initiative (F.Y.I.) Program. Taught by Mesa State faculty, the F.Y.I. Program is designed to give students a better understanding of the skills needed to be successful in college including study skills, test-taking strategies, and time management techniques. In addition to expanding your knowledge, you will have the opportunity to become familiar with our campus and the many resources available to help you reach your academic and professional goals. Plus, you’ll be able to participate in activities throughout the week and start building friendships that may last a lifetime.


F.Y.I. STUDENTS:
  • Understand the skills needed for reading college-level textbooks
  • Expand note-taking techniques
  • Build on previous test-taking skills
  • Learn how to use the MSC library resources and computer laboratories
  • Relate goals and time management to academic success
  • Discover memory enhancement skills for
    college achievement

COST
Tuition: F.Y.I. will add 2 credits to your class schedule. Tuition will be assessed on your total fall 2008 credit hours. Please contact the Business Office at 970.248.1567 for your exact tuition rate.

Program Fee : $190 The program fee is a separate fee (not included in MSC tuition and student fees) covering the cost of class materials and activity expenses.

Textbook: $42 Your textbook is a new edition and will be provided to you at your first class session with a Mav day planner.

Housing & Meals: $182 A student withdrawing from MSC housing after the start of the F.Y.I. Program is liable for the costs of their 2008–2009 residence life contract.

Lunch Meal Plan : $34 Purchase a lunch pass good for five meals on campus.
