Foster Named to UNESCO U.S. National Commission
Grand Junction, CO - Mesa State College president Tim Foster has
been appointed to the recently re-established U.S. National Commission
for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
The U.S. National Commission will function as a federal advisory
committee, providing expert advice to the U.S. Government on matters
relating to UNESCO, including worldwide humanitarian development.
It will also function as a liaison with organizations, institutions
and individuals interested in the work of UNESCO.
"UNESCO has an ambitious goal, 'to build peace in the minds
of men,'" said Foster. "I consider it quite an honor to
serve the U.S. Department of State and U.N. in this capacity and
to use my experience in education to further this goal."
Foster is one of 13 state and local government representatives
appointed by Secretary of State Colin Powell. The National Commission
also includes 50 non-governmental agencies, nine federal government
officials and 15 at-large members.
