"Natural Resources of the West: Land and
Water" Seminar Series
Saccomanno Lecture Hall, Science Building

Mondays, September - November
4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
This fall, Dr. Gigi Richard, associate professor of geology, and
Dr. Tamara Minnick, associate professor of environmental science,
will host a public seminar series entitled "Natural Resources
of the West: Land and Water" on Monday afternoons from 4 p.m.
to 5:30 p.m. in the Saccomanno Lecture Hall of the Mesa State Science
Building.
The series, which begins on September 13, will examine issues surrounding
the preservation, conservation and restoration of natural resources
in the western United States, including Colorado. Guest speakers
will focus on a number of land- and water-related topics, including:
- When Science and Policy Collide: Wildfire in the West - Tom
Fry, Wilderness Society
- Private Lands: Conservation and Protection - Steve Aquafresca,
Mesa Land Trust
- Water and Growth in Colorado - Peter Nichols, Trout, Witwer &
Freeman P.C.
- Federal Agency Land Management Strategies -Raul Morales, Bureau
of Land Management, and David Price, Colorado National Monument
In addition, Anna Lappe, co-author of "Hope's Edge: The Next
Diet for a Small Planet," will present a special seminar, "What's
Food Got to Do With It? Straight Talk on the Impact of our Agricultural
System on the Economy and Environment," on Wednesday, October
13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Saccomanno Lecture Hall.
