SIGMA XI PUBLIC LECTURE
Monday, September 27 at 7:30 p.m.
Liff Auditorium
Mesa State College
The Mesa State chapter of Sigma Xi will host "A Grand Challenge:
Homeland Defense in a Fragile Environment," a public lecture
by guest speaker Peter Brandom on Monday, September 27 at 7:30 p.m.
in Liff Auditorium. Brandom, the Defense Advanced Research Projects
Agency (DARPA) Grand Challenge Environmental Coordinator, will discuss
how the U.S. Department of Defense has developed 'smart' ground
machines that will make war safer for American men and women in
combat, and how these machines were tested during the DARPA Grand
Challenge between Barstow, California and Las Vegas, Nevada. Brandom
will focus on the balance between preserving the environment and
testing technology that promises to save American lives in combat.
This lecture is free and open to the public. For more information
on this lecture or the Sigma Xi chapter, please contact Dr. Teri
Coons at 970.255.1898.
