Symphony Orchestra Concert to
Feature Beethoven and Poulenc
Grand Junction, CO - Music at Mesa will present the Symphony Orchestra
Concert on October 11 at 7:30 pm in the Robinson Theatre of the
Moss Performing Arts Center.
Under the direction of Carlos Elías, the Symphony Orchestra
will perform Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 and Poulenc's Two-Piano
Concerto in d minor. Symphony No. 1 is one of Beethoven's
early symphonies. Although written in the classical style, its uncharacteristic
and surprising vigor is indicative of the movement toward the romantic
style of music - a transition with which Beethoven is largely credited.
Featuring peformances by music faculty members Andrea Arese-Elías
and Michael Baron, Poulenc's Two-Piano Concerto has been
described as a "twentieth-century landmark." It is a challenging,
but light-hearted French piece from the 1920's that is full of bright
colors, clear rhythms and gorgeous, bubbly harmonies.
Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for students and
are available in advance or at the door. Season tickets are also
available. The box office opens 45 minutes before each performance
and all seating is general admission. For more information, call
970. 248.1822.
