Mesa State College to Welcome Students Back for Fall Semester

Grand Junction, CO - Mesa State College will begin fall semester classes on Monday, August 23. To celebrate the start of this new semester, the College will hold its annual Welcome Week festivities, beginning on August 20 and continuing through August 29.

Welcome Week events include:

Friday, August 20
The Welcome Week Kick Off celebration will begin at 3:30 p.m. The event will include a welcome message from President Tim Foster, Bump n' Jump games, the KMSA Rock Block and a barbecue. At 5 p.m., Lion Vibes, a local reggae band, will perform in the Academic Quad. At 8 p.m., comedy magicians Spike and Hammer, award-winning sleight-of-hand masters, will perform a free show in the Robinson Theatre.

Saturday, August 21
To assist new and returning students, the campus offices will be open on Saturday. In addition, there will be College Survival Sessions during the day, as well as a casino night and a showing of the movie "Jaws" from 7 to 10 pm. in the Student Recreation Center.

Sunday, August 22
In addition to classroom tours during the day, an outdoor movie, "50 First Dates," will be shown at 9 p.m. in the grassy area between Rait and Tolman Halls.

Monday, August 23 - Thursday, August 26
Classes begin on Monday morning. Additional student workshops and seminars will provided throughout the week, as well as various evening programs.

Friday, August 27
The Alumni Association will host area band "Ralph Dinosaur and the Fabulous Volcanoes" from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Academic Quad. Mesa State alums and the public are encouraged to attend.

Saturday, August 28
The Maverick football team will play the University of Central Oklahoma Broncos at 1 p.m. in Stocker Stadium. At 8 p.m., comedian Dan Levy, a featured performer on the "Andy Dick Show," will perform a free show in the Robinson Theatre.

Sunday, August 29
Renowned coffee house artist Jill Cohn will perform a free show at 7:30 p.m. in the W.W. Campbell College Center's Elm Street Grill.
