Monforts' Match Fundraising Campaign Raises More
Than $99,000
Grand Junction, CO - Mesa State College has received more than
$99,000 in contributions from Monforts' Match, a fundraising challenge
initiated in November by college trustee Charlie Monfort and his
wife Vanessa.
"Having served as an integral member of the Board of Trustees,
Charlie is well aware of the financial challenges that Mesa State
College is facing and how we are serving a growing student body
without a corresponding increase in funds," said Tim Foster,
president of Mesa State College. "He decided to reach into
his own pocket to help Mesa State students and challenged the college's
supporters to do the same."
Monfort, the chairman and chief executive officer of the Colorado
Rockies baseball team, pledged to match dollar-for-dollar all contributions,
up to $40,000, made to Mesa State College during November and December
2004. The Mesa State College Foundation notified college alumni
and supporters of this fundraising challenge and they responded
with more than $54,000.
"Contributions ranged from $10 to $10,000 and came from hundreds
of people of all ages and backgrounds," said Rick Adleman,
Mesa State College Foundation interim director. "The generous
response to Monforts' Match really demonstrates the strength of
the relationship between Mesa State College and its supporters."
Outgoing trustee and Home Loan Investment Company chairman and
CEO Jamie Hamilton also contributed $5000 to the fundraising challenge.
This increased the contribution total to more than $99,000.
"In my one and a half years of being on the Mesa State College
Board of Trustees, I have learned what a high quality and well run
institution Mesa State is," said Monfort. "I am very impressed
with the strong local and state-wide support for the college, and
Vanessa and I are both excited to be involved with this great institution."
While the Monforts' Match fundraising challenge ended on December
31, 2004, the Mesa State College Foundation accepts gifts year-round.
Contributions are tax-deductible and may be earmarked for the Fund
for Mesa in which the funds are directed to the college's most critical
needs, or to the department or program of choice.
