Center for Transfer Services Opens to Help Transfer
Students
Grand Junction, CO - Mesa State College recently opened a Center
for Transfer Services to assist students with problems and questions
they may have when transferring to Mesa State from other institutions.
"We hope to minimize frustration and also contribute to the
retention of these important students who bring richness and diversity
to Mesa State College," said Nancy Breckel, interim director
of the Center for Transfer Services.
The Center for Transfer Services can ease the transition for transfer
students, many of whom are concerned with how many of the credits
they have earned elsewhere may be applied toward their Mesa State
degree programs. Transfer Services can also answer questions about
credits, offer preliminary transcript evaluation, help solve transfer
problems and participate in scheduling and advising. The services
are available to both transfer students and faculty who may be working
with a transfer student.
Transfer Services is also responsible for developing articulation
agreements and for maintaining those that Mesa State has already
established with other institutions. The Center will also network
with designated community colleges to communicate with students
before they transfer to Mesa State College.
"On campus, we work closely with the admissions, academic
advising and registrar's offices," Breckel said. "We are
here not to duplicate services, but to enhance and help synthesize
services already offered in order to better respond to Mesa State
students."
Students who would like to utilize this new service should contact
the Transfer Center at 970.248.1232 or stop by the Center in the
Early Childhood Education Center building, located on the corner
of 12th and Elm Streets in Grand Junction.
For more information, contact Nancy Breckel, Interim Director of
Transfer Services, at 970.248.1232 or Kit Derry, Transfer Services
Coordinator, at 970.248.1211.
