COMPUTER LABS
COMPUTER LAB USER RESPONSIBILITIES
The computer is an instructional tool used by all segments of the
college community. As such, consideration must be shown for other
users at all times. Considerable time, effort and money have been
required to obtain, install and operate these systems. It is the
responsibility of all users to safeguard and use the system with
care.
The following guidelines apply to all users:
- Report any computer system irregularities or problems to the
Library Computer Lab Manager or Lab Assistant on duty.
- Abide by the rules of the Reservation System. If a user has
signed up for a particular computer at a specific time, that user
has the right to use that computer. The current user must yield.
Failure to yield can result in disciplinary action. Users are
allowed to reserve one computer for one hour at a time.
- Report any suspicious activity to the Library Computer Lab
Manager or Lab Assistant on duty. Theft and vandalism can be stopped
only if the perpetrators know that other users will report their
activities.
-
Use consideration when consulting Lab Assistants. Lab Assistants
cannot be expected to know how to use all the software on the
system. Lab Assistants are present to remedy problems related
to the general operation of the lab. Do not expect them to know
how to solve your homework problems or to tutor you.
- Do expect the lab assistants to be polite and courteous. Complaints
or compliments about Lab Assistants should be made to the Library
Computer Lab Manager. Comments should include a description of
the situation, time and date, and name of Lab Assistant if known.
- The computer system is to be used by faculty, staff, and students
only.
- The computer system is not to be used for work unrelated to
academic pursuits.
- Game playing is prohibited.
- Obscene language on the computer system is prohibited. Any obscene
language found on the system will be deleted immediately. Files
with obscene names will be deleted.
- Save your work in your account or on your F Drive. Do not save
your work on the personal computer's hard disk or c drive.
- Set your cell phone to ring silently, and exit the lab before
speaking on the phone.
